Service FAQs

Fines

Do I have to pay fines before renewing my car registration?

Yes. All unpaid fines on the vehicle and the traffic file must be paid first. Amira can send you a payment link and renew straight after.

Is there a fee on top of the fine?

Yes, a knowledge and innovation fee of 20 dirhams per fine.

Can I dispute a fine?

Yes. Disputes are free. Amira logs the dispute with the fine number and your reason; you get a decision by SMS within 30 working days.

Vehicles

When can I renew my registration?

Up to 90 days before expiry. After expiry there is a 30-day grace period, then a late fee of 25 dirhams per month.

Does my car need a technical test?

Vehicles older than three years need a passed technical test (170 dirhams) before renewal.

What do I get after renewing?

A digital registration card in the RTA Dubai app and by e-mail. A printed card can be delivered.

Drivers

How much is a driving test?

200 dirhams per test plus 20 dirhams knowledge and innovation fee.

Can I change my driving test date?

Yes, within 30 days and subject to free slots. A later date is free; an earlier date costs 300 dirhams plus 20.

What happens if I miss my test?

A missed test counts as a no-show: the fee is forfeited and you book and pay a new test. Cancel or move it before the day to keep your money.

How do I renew my driving licence?

Do an eye test first (approved optician or happiness centre), pay any fines, then renew online, in the app or with Amira. 300 dirhams (21+) plus 20.

Public transport

What is the minimum nol balance?

7.50 dirhams to check in on the Metro, Tram, bus or marine transport.

My top-up was charged but not credited — what now?

Give Amira the card number and the time and place of the top-up. She logs a claim; verified claims are credited within three working days.

What do Metro trips cost?

Silver card: 3 dirhams within one zone, 5 dirhams for two adjacent zones, 7.50 dirhams for more than two zones. Gold class costs double. Children aged five and under travel free.

Who gets discounts on nol?

The Personal (blue) card gives 50 percent off to students and senior citizens and residents, and free travel to people of determination.

I lost something on the Metro — what do I do?

Report it to Amira in your own language with the line, station, time and a description. You get a reference at once and an update when it is found. Found items are kept for 90 days at the lost & found office, Union Metro Station.

How long can a journey with transfers take?

Up to 180 minutes with a maximum of three transfers; Metro–bus transfers within 30 minutes count as one journey.

Recalls

Who pays for a recall repair?

The manufacturer. Recall repairs are always free for the owner — including second and third owners.

What does STOP DRIVE mean?

The car must not be driven until the repair is done. The authorised dealer collects the car and offers a replacement vehicle where possible.

I bought my car second-hand — am I covered?

Yes. RTA matches recall lists to the current owner in the licensing record, so you are contacted even if the dealer only knew the first owner.
